The Top 10 Memorial Day Destinations In The USA (2024)
I say this every year, but it really feels like the year is flying by! Memorial Day weekend is one of my favorite weekends, because it’s the kick-off to summer and sunshine. Whether you want to relax on the beach, spend time in nature, or explore busy cities, I've got you covered with my top 10 Memorial Day destinations.
Miami, Florida
Ah, Miami – where the sun kisses your skin and the vibes are as lively as the nightlife. I’m obsessed with this city! Memorial Day weekend in Miami means laying out on the beaches of South Beach, indulging in delicious Cuban cuisine in Little Havana, and dancing the night away in the electric atmosphere of its clubs and bars.
Jackson Hole, Wyoming
For a Memorial Day weekend getaway that's off the beaten path, Jackson Hole is the perfect choice. It's a charming mountain town, located in the heart of the Teton Range. Although it's a mountain town, Jackson Hole is absolutely gorgeous in the Spring/Summer. There is much more to do when the weather is warmer, especially because exploring the Grand Tetons is a must. That said, even if you're not a super "outdoorsy" person, you can still visit Jackson Hole and have a great time. And there’s a super cute downtown area, where you can browse through art galleries, sip on craft cocktails, and indulge in delicious food.
Asheville, North Carolina
If you're craving some mountain air and small-town charm, Asheville is the place to be. Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, this vibrant city offers stunning scenery, a thriving arts and music scene, and mouthwatering farm-to-table dining options. Hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway is an absolute must!
New York City, New York
Another one of my favorite Memorial Day destinations is NYC. Memorial Day weekend in New York City means picnicking in Central Park, catching a Broadway show, and soaking in the skyline views from atop the Empire State Building. The weather is usually perfect - not too hot yet, and not chilly.
Charleston, South Carolina
For a taste of Southern hospitality and charm, Charleston is one of the best Memorial Day destinations. It’s my ABSOLUTE favorite city and is quickly becoming one of everyone's favorite places to visit. In fact, it's been the #1 destination in the US for the past 10 years. There is something so charming about the city and its architecture. Not to mention, the food is some of the top in the world. Start your day with a stroll through the city, then spend the afternoon at the beach, and end your day at one of the amazing restaurants.
Las Vegas, Nevada
If you're looking for a Memorial Day destination with non-stop entertainment, Las Vegas is the place to be! You can hit up the casinos on the Strip, catch a Cirque du Soleil show, or dance the night away at one of the many nightclubs. Plus, the warm weather means you can lounge by the pool all day - or go to one of the beach clubs. And don't forget the food! Vegas has some of the best restaurants in the world, from celebrity chef spots to classic buffets.
Portland, Oregon
Portland, Oregon is known for delicious (and unique) food, gorgeous scenery, breweries, and having one of the top bike scores in the country. It's also about an hour to the coastline or an hour in the opposite direction to the mountains, offering plenty of activities for those who enjoy the outdoors.
Portland, Maine
Situated along the gorgeous coast of New England, Portland, Maine is bursting with nautical charm, delicious lobster, and beautiful scenery. Whether you're a history buff, foodie, or someone looking for a relaxing trip along the coast, the city has a little bit of everything. Spend your Memorial Day weekend exploring the historic Old Port district, where cobblestone streets are lined with cute shops, cozy cafes, and delicious seafood restaurants. Be sure to try fresh lobster rolls, creamy clam chowder, and a homemade blueberry pie. And if you're feeling adventurous, hop on a ferry to nearby islands like Peaks Island or Great Diamond Island.
San Diego, California
Sunny skies, pristine beaches, and laid-back vibes – that's San Diego for you! Spend Memorial Day weekend soaking up the sun at iconic beaches like La Jolla and Mission Beach or exploring the Gaslamp Quarter. San Diego is truly a special city - take it from someone who grew up there (me!). With countless beaches, amazing rooftop bars, and so many trendy neighborhoods, San Diego has so much to offer.
Seattle, Washington
Last but certainly not least, we have Seattle – the Emerald City of the Pacific Northwest. From the iconic Space Needle to the busy Pike Place Market, there's no shortage of things to see and do in Seattle. Don't forget to enjoy some fresh seafood and catch a glimpse of the beautiful Mount Rainier on a clear day!
