My perfect morning routine originally started off with trying to tackle the majority of the 5 things I wanted to accomplish everyday. Then my daily to-do list grew to 10 items when I added more items to each of the daily 5 category.
I’ve always been big on routines + definitely prefer my weekdays to have some sort of consistency. Obviously this 2.5 hour pre-work/morning routine isn’t always possible without any interruption from work emails/meetings, which is why it’s called “My Perfect Morning Routine” – emphasis on “perfect”.
Now, I know 2.5 hours initially seems like a long morning routine before starting work. But, hear me out.
The idea is to have my “me” time + accomplish as much as possible on my daily to-do list. This COMPLETELY sets the tone for my day. It also allows me to FULLY focus on my work priorities without worrying about all the other personal things I want to try and get done for the day.
It’s also worth mentioning that my perfect morning routine includes a 1 hour workout + 30 minutes of answering emails/prepping for the day. If I find myself pressed for time, I stick to a 30 minute workout and/or jump right into meetings and tackle my emails around the lunch hour. This cuts the time by 30-60 minutes.
Regardless, I finally feel like I’ve mastered an ideal routine that has made it easy for me to cross off the majority of the 10 things I want to accomplish everyday (7 out of 10, to be exact).
- Family Connects
- Skincare Routine
- Breath work
The remaining 3, I accomplish as I go about my day. I take my vitamins on a full stomach around the lunch hour. I drink my 96oz of water throughout, and I prefer to read my 30-60 minutes right before bed.
So let’s get into my perfect morning routine…
6:00A | Wake UP + Get Ready
For the longest time, I’ve tried to be someone who could get up without snoozing. But I’ve recently come to accept I’m just not that kind of person. So I give myself 10 min (well technically 9 min with my iPhone alarm app) to snooze and slowly get out of bed. Then I spend about 6 minutes brushing my teeth and getting ready for my workout.
6:15A | Workout
In a perfect day, I work out for 60 minutes. But that’s not always possible. I at least do a 28 minute workout. I’m OBSESSED with Obe Fitness. They have live classes + a huge on demand library. I also love not having to leave my house to go to a class, which used to add on additional 45+ minutes to my routine.
7:15A | Walk
My AM walk has become my favorite part of my day. I am fortunate to live by the water, so it’s really peaceful to walk along every morning. Typically, I’ll listen to a Podcast, but sometimes I’ll use it to catch up with my parents on the phone.
7:45A | Shower
Depending on the time of year, I either start with a fully cold shower (Summer) or I’ll do a lukewarm shower and end with a minute long cold shower. The cold shower really wakes me up.
7:55A | Skincare Routine
Yes, I’ve timed my skincare routine more than once and it’s usually around 7 minutes. But, it’s an 8-step routine so I think 7 minutes is pretty good time. I love getting out of the shower and hitting play on a Podcast while I do my skincare routine. It’s definitely therapeutic to me lol.
8:02A | Make CoffeE
At this point, I’m still listening to whatever podcast I chose for that day and I make my coffee: 2 espresso shots (over ice) + 1 Tbsp of MALK Oat/Almond Milk Creamer.
8:05A | Breathwork
My boyfriend got me into breath work by Wim Hof. I have the app on my phone and I’ll do 2-3 rounds of guided breath work. This has replaced any sort of meditation I do and has been much more effective for me to get into.
8:10A | Stretch
I spend 5 minutes of stretching doing a flow-stretch that focuses on my lower body/flexibility. Then I’ll spend 5 minutes stretching on a foam roller. All of the while, I’m usually wrapping up the podcast I was listening to. 10 minutes isn’t an ideal amount of time for me to stretch, but it’s the most I’ve found I can do without getting bored. So…I’d rather do 10 minutes than nothing at all. If I can, I’ll stretch more at night if I’m watching TV.
8:20A | Journal
I’ve started to keep an online journal in a Google doc because I’m much more likely to type in a journal than actually write (I type WAY faster than I write). I’ll usually write about what’s going on in my life/the world and then I also write:
- 1 word to describe how I’m feeling
- 1 thing I’m grateful for
- Song I’m currently listening to
8:30a | Answer Emails + PRep For Work
Nothing stresses me out more than starting my meetings with more than 29 emails in my inbox. Not just unread emails, but like 29 emails total. I try to organize my emails into different folders when I’m done completing the action item needed. So I use 30 minutes to go through and reply or organize everything as best as possible before my meetings. Because God knows, they will continue to pile up between 9a-lunchtime.
9:00A | Start Meetings
Like I said, by the time I’m ready to start my meetings, I’ve already had accomplished the majority of the things I want to do everyday, which is such a rewarding feeling.
