I’ve been traveling a lot lately. I am definitely not complaining (I’ve really come to enjoy traveling for work too), but feel like it can be hard to stay healthy while traveling. Traveling exposes you to so many people + germs. I find it’s easier to eat unhealthy + skip the workouts too. Again… hard to stay healthy while traveling. These few things have made me feel better about myself + kept me from getting sick.
On days I’m flying, I try to drink at least 4 fills of the 32oz Hydro Flask I bring with me. Not only does re-hydrate me after being in the air, but it helps keep my skin looking more refreshed (which is a must after a long travel day).
2: Fight Off Germs
I always pack my everyday vitamins when I travel, slightly upping my Vitamin C intake specifically. I also keep hand sanitizer in my purse and use it literally every chance I get. My immune system isn’t the best, BUT being extra cautious of germs has helped me stay healthy while traveling A TON.
This one is actually pretty hard for me. Anyone else sleep horribly when you’re not in your own bed? Not only that, but when I’m traveling, there’s usually some sort of time change adjustment. I’m one of those people that gets sick when I don’t get enough sleep, so 7-8 hours of sleep is essential. During work trips, I’ve started getting into bed an hour before I want to fall asleep, and will either read or listen to a mellow podcast. To get my mind to slow down, I’ll throw on a sleep sound app + my eye mask about 15 minutes before I actually want to fall asleep.
This is definitely not always possible, but I try and squeeze in a quick workout once a day while traveling. If I’m at a hotel that has a gym onsite, I’ll run or walk on the treadmill while answering emails/listening to a Podcast. Any sort of cardio helps me release a lot of the stress I encounter while traveling (sounds strange, I know). For my non-cardio days OR if my hotel doesn’t have a gym, I bring two pieces of equipment that are small enough to fit in my luggage: sliders + a portable mini exercise ball.
There is nothing worse than coming home from traveling and just feeling so off from your routines. For some reason, I always felt like there wasn’t a way to keep my routines while I was traveling. But there are so many things out there that have made it so much easier. This helps me stay healthy while traveling because I feel like it keeps things consistent for my mind/body.
