Breakfast used to by my favorite meal, hands down. Never in a million years did I think I would ever find a green smoothie filling or satisfying enough for a meal. Especially one that had spinach in it (I had always been a sugary/fruit smoothie, type girl).
But…when I shifted a few things in my diet, I decided to try and drink one of my meals almost everyday. This green smoothie started with 4 ingredients. Then once I started to realize that spinach doesn’t taste so bad in a smoothie, I started incorporating more nutrients. I usually make this smoothie at around 10:30am and have sometimes found myself not getting hungry until 2:30/3pm.
Here’s why else I love it…

1: Healthiness
Like I said, I’ve slowly started incorporating more nutrients (collagen + Spirulina) into the green smoothie. I also love using Trader Joe’s Simply Almond beverage as the base since the ingredients are literally just almonds + water.
2: $ Saver
Another thing I love about making this almost everyday, is how INEXPENSIVE this smoothie is to make on a daily basis. Now, obviously with all healthy foods you’re going to need to splurge in the beginning, but almost all of these ingredients last for a bit. And since you’re not using a ton every time you make this, you won’t need to buy every ingredient on a weekly basis. When I do my weekly grocery shopping, all I’m consistently buying for breakfast is a new bag of organic spinach ($3 at the most), a new carton of the simply almond beverage ($4.99), + 3 bananas ($3). Essentially it comes out to $11/week or $2.20/weekday.
3: Quick + Easy
My mornings are usually packed with meetings, so it’s daunting to consider making anything for breakfast that’s not quick. Since I work from home, I also hate any sort of mess, so anything I make for meals needs to be easy to clean. Making this green smoothie takes all of 5 minutes from the time I prep/make/drink/clean (yep, I’ve timed it). You can also make this in the AM if you work from an office + drink on the go.
