Weekend In Washington DC

Spending a weekend in Washington DC? The city is filled with history, culture, and iconic landmarks, making it an ideal destination for history enthusiasts, art lovers, and foodies. With so much to see and do, planning your weekend in Washington DC is essential to make the most of your time.

Here's my curated itinerary to help you maximize your weekend in Washington DC.

Weekend In Washington DC

Day 1:

Breakfast @ Founding Farmers

Start your day at Founding Farmers, a popular farm-to-table restaurant located in the heart of Washington DC. They have delicious pancakes, eggs benedict, and their signature farmer's breakfast.

National Mall

After breakfast, head over to the iconic National Mall. This isn't the type of mall you're thinking of... The National Mall is the heart and soul of Washington DC. Here you'll find the famous Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the U.S. Capitol. You can also take a walk around the Reflecting Pool, soak in the history at the memorials, and take tours. Visiting the National Mall is a must on your weekend in Washington DC!

Smithsonian Museums

Washington DC is known for its world-class museums, most of which are part of the Smithsonian Institution. Visit the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum to see historic aircraft and space artifacts or explore the National Museum of American History to learn about the nation's history and culture. There are also the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, or the National Museum of Natural History. Some of these museums offer free admission too!

The White House

Visiting the White House should not only be on your Washington DC travel guide, but also your USA Bucket List. The White House is the symbol of American power and democracy. You really realize the magnitude of its historical significance standing in front of it.

Lunch @ Old Ebbitt Grill

About a 5 minute walk from the White House, Old Ebbitt Grill is a historic restaurant that has been open since 1856. In fact, it's Washington DC's oldest saloon. Their menu features classic American dishes and fresh seafood. Don't forget to try their famous oyster bar!

Monuments by Moonlight Tour

Monuments by Moonlight Tour is a great way to see the city at night. It's a guided tour with a unique perspective of the city's iconic landmarks, such as the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, and the U.S. Capitol, all lit up! You can get great photos and learn interesting stories from your tour guide.

Dinner @ Zaytinya

Zaytinya is a super popular Mediterranean restaurant, with a menu that mixes the cuisines of Greece, Turkey, and Lebanon, Zaytinya. From the creamy hummus and smoky eggplant dips to the tender lamb kebabs and crispy falafel, each dish is filled with delicious and authentic flavors.

Drinks @ POV Rooftop Lounge and Terrace

For a great view of the city's skyline, head to POV Rooftop Lounge and Terrace at the W Hotel after dinner. Grab a cocktail look out onto the many landmarks like the White House and Washington Monument.

Day 2:

Breakfast @ Le Diplomate

Start your second day with a delicious French-inspired breakfast at Le Diplomate. It's a charming brasserie with an array of pastries, croissants, and traditional breakfast dishes. They also serve amazing coffee!

Capitol Hill

After breakfast, head over to Capitol Hill, the historic neighborhood surrounding the U.S. Capitol. Take a stroll and admire the beautiful rowhouses, visit the Library of Congress, and soak in the historic energy of the neighborhood.

National Archives & The Declaration of Independence

From Capitol Hill, you'll likely want to Uber to the National Archives (otherwise, it's a 30 minute walk). Exploring the National Archives is like stepping back in time and immersing yourself in the birth of our nation. It's so cool being able to see the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution in real life. This is another top thing to do during your weekend in Washington DC.

Lunch @ Ben's Chili Bowl

For lunch, treat yourself to a classic D.C. dining experience at Ben's Chili Bowl. They've been serving their famous chili dogs and half-smokes since 1958. It's also in the same place where civil rights activists once gathered. It's about a 12 minute drive from the National Archives, but kind of on the way to Georgetown.

Georgetown

After lunch, take a 15 minute drive to Georgetown, one of D.C.'s most beautiful neighborhoods. You can walk around admiring its charming streets lined with historic townhouses, boutiques, and cafes. Be sure to also walk along the historic C&O Canal.

Dinner @ The Capital Grille

The Capital Grille is another great spot, located near the White House. It's an upscale steakhouse with premium cuts of meat, fresh seafood, and an extensive wine list. Can you think of a better last meal in Washington DC?

Drinks @ Off the Record

End your weekend in Washington DC at Off the Record, a popular bar in the Hay-Adams hotel. Known for its political theme, this classy spot is popular for tourists and locals. They have delicious craft cocktails too.
