Weekend In Beaufort, South Carolina

Beaufort, South Carolina truly embodies the Lowcountry and is known for its friendly locals and charm. It's about a 90-minute drive from Charleston and 75-minute drive from Savannah, making it the perfect destination for a long weekend.

We recently spent a week living in Beaufort and had such a relaxing experience. That being said, you can spend a weekend in Beaufort and still see a lot of what makes it so special. Whether you're exploring the historic district, lounging on the beach, or enjoying a sunset cocktail on the river, a weekend in Beaufort has something for everyone.

Weekend In Beaufort Itinerary

Day 1

Lunch @ Panini's

If you arrive to Beaufort around lunchtime, head to Panini's for a quick bite. They are known for their paninis (of course), but also offer other delicious sandwiches.

Explore The Historic District

Take a walk around the historic district of Beaufort which features 300+ historic homes, buildings, and churches. Walk down Bay Street and pop into some of the shops. From there, head towards the water along Bay Street to see some of the oldest (and prettiest) homes in Beaufort. This is a must for your weekend in Beaufort.

Carriage Ride

If you're looking to learn more about Beaufort's history, take a 55-minute carriage ride. It's a great way to see the city and learn more about what makes Beaufort so special.

Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park

Take a stroll around Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park, located on the Beaufort River. The park offers gorgeous views of the water and the surrounding marshlands.

Sunset Drinks @ Ribaut Social Club (Anchorage Inn)

If there is availability, be sure to grab a drink at the Ribaut Social Club and sit on the patio. The Inn was built in 1770 and showcases its historical charm. Even if they can't squeeze you in for a drink, seeing the Inn is a must.

Dinner @ Saltus

After drinks, walk over to Saltus River Grill for dinner. The restaurant offers beautiful views of the Beaufort River and serves a variety of fresh seafood and southern-style food. One of the more popular dishes is the Blackened Dorado which comes with Blue Crab and Fingerling Potato Gratin.

Drinks @ Luther's

If you're looking for an after-dinner drink, head a few doors down to Luther's. Luther's has been a local favorite for many years and offers live music most nights.

Day 2

Brunch @ Blackstone's Cafe

Blackstone's is another staple in Beaufort. They offer the breakfast classics along with their specialities such as the Cajun Shrimp & Grits and Corned Beef Hash Brisket.

Hunting Island

Hunting Island State Park is 5,000 acres filled with beaches, hiking trails, and a lighthouse. You can spend the day exploring or just relaxing on the beach. There is a small entry fee per person, but it gives you all-day access to the entire park.

Dinner @ Dockside

Dockside offers casual dining with waterfront views. They serve delicious seafood, steaks, and classic southern dishes - all at a reasonable price.

Drinks @ Fillin' Station

If you're looking for a local dive bar, head to the Fillin’ Station after dinner. They offer reasonably priced drinks with a great view of the bay and friendly staff!

Day 3

Breakfast @ Corner Perk

Located in Port Royal, Corner Perk is a great spot if you're looking for something quick on your way to The Sands. They offer delicious coffee and great breakfast options. Be sure to try their breakfast biscuit sandwich! If you find yourself waiting for your meal, head out to the Cypress Wetlands to find baby alligators and other wildlife in the water.

The Sands

After grabbing breakfast, take a quick drive to The Sands. Here you can walk along the beach and up the observation tower for views of the Lowcountry. If you're pressed for time, you can successfully walk around and see everything here in less than 30 minutes. Otherwise, you can spend time relaxing on the beach.
